17th International Collegiate Snow Sculpture Contest (2025)

To colleges and universities,
The 17th International Collegiate Snow Sculpture Contest (2025) will be held in HEU from 4th to 7th January, 2025, organized by the National Instructive Committee of Industrial Design Education, Ministry of Education of the PRC, and hosted by Harbin Engineering University (HEU). This event aims to disseminate the ice-snow culture of Harbin, enhance the snow sculpture creation capabilities of collegians and build it as a winter culture brand event for collegiate students, thereby promote the high-quality development of the ice-snow industry. In order to ensure the delivery of safe, smooth and successful contest, the detailed information is as follows:

Undergraduate students, junior college students and postgraduate students in China and abroad.
5. Participation Requirement
Only the registration in the name of institution can be accepted. And each institution can only have one team registered.
6. Registration Materials
(1) Please fill in the “17th International Collegiate Snow Sculpture Contest(2025) Team Enrollment Form” and name it by “Application Form_University Name”;
(2) Please provide an A4 size sketch or sculpture model photos (two photos of different angles) in the format of .jpeg within 5M in size, with the two photos named by “Draft-design_University Name_Sculpture Name(Chinese)”; and provide a brief description of the design within 200 words in the format of Word(.doc/docx);
(3) Please provide a picture of university logo within 5M in the format of .jpeg, and the background should be white or clear, and please name the picture by “University logo_University Name”;
(4) Please provide a group photo of team members with the background of the front gate of the university or college, within 3M in jpeg, named by “Team Photo_University Name”;
(5) Please provide one-inch photos of each coach and team member, named by “University Name_Coach/Team Member_Name”
Attention: Please send the electronic versions of above materials to icssc@hrbeu.edu.cn, the Secretariat of the 17th International Collegiate Snow Sculpture Contest, before November 24th, 2024. The Registration Form and Design Description should be submitted in both the electronic version of Word and scanned version PDF with the official seal.

8. Rules of Contest
(1) Each team consists of 4 members. Please consider the factors such as work load and weather when selecting team members. It is recommended to reasonably consider the proportion of male and female team members. Once the contest begins, no team member is allowed to be changed. If there are special reasons for changing team members, it must be approved by the organizing committee;
(2) Works participated should be your original designs. Plagiarism is prohibited, and it will lead to disqualification of committed teams;
(3) Each team will be provided with a standard artificial snow block (3m. in length, 3m. in width and 3 m. in height). It should be sculpted on all four sides. No colorants, electric tools or precision measuring instruments can be used. No supports may be used in, or on the final sculptures. No waste residue snow is allowed within the scope of 1 meter of the snow works;
(4) Working time of the contest is from 7: 00 to 20: 00 every day;
(5) The host will provide a ladder for each team. The teams are suggested to prepare tools by themselves. If they need tools from the host, please specify in the registration form.
(6) Once the contest begins, any change of the original design is prohibited without the committee’s permission.
(7) The Organizing Committee of the Contest have the right of final interpretation to the rules of this contest.

10. Criteria of Evaluation
(1) Theme and Idea (10 points)
1) The topic selection of the work complies with the theme stipulated by the organizing committee.
2) The work has certain connotations.
3) The theme of the work demonstrates certain characteristics of the times.
4) The theme of the work can showcase the spirit and mindset of collegians.
(2) Creativity and Innovation (20 points)
1) The degree of innovation in the design of the work.
2) The ingenuity of the concept of the work.
3) The work has distinct characteristics.
4) The degree to which the work reflects the theme.
(3) Difficulty (25 points)
1) The refinement degree of the work.
2) The overall workload of the work.
3) The difficulty level in completing the work.
4) The degree of conformity between the work and the original design.
(4) Skills and Performance (25 points)
1) The ability and proficiency in using tools.
2) The ability of exploiting and utilizing raw materials.
3) The degree of presenting the characteristics of ice and snow as raw materials.
4) The creativity in realizing the design theme.
(5) Artistic expression (20 points)
1) The degree to which the work displays beauty.
2) The artistic appeal of the work.
3) The understanding and interpretation of ice-snow art displayed by the work.
4) The actual visual effect of the work.
11. Expenses
(1) Conference fees and registration fees are not charged.
(2) The accommodation fees, transportation fees and meal expenses for the contest shall be covered by their respective institutions.
(3) Each participating institution shall purchase personal insurance for the participating coaches and students, and shall be responsible for any accidental injury or medical treatment during the contest.
